thanks guys!
New update, the PAC adapter might have a problem. apparently the reverse issue i had was not related to that wire at all. It happened again this morning - same place roughly the same time, about halfway down my driveway.
I have been speaking to PAC directly about this, and so far thier support has been top notch. The rep said he has a fix, which at first they thought might be a new unit, but now are saying it is related to the factory harness.....I am not 100% convinced. I have tried pulling in and out of my garage today with the park assist both on and off, with different headlight on/off combinations and have not been able to reproduce the issue. both times that it happened it was about 9:00am and the truck had sat for at least 12 hours. I am interested to see if it happens again tomorrow....if it does that will be a real head scratcher...

I will keep everyone updated as i get new info

neo117,

thx for the pics and quick reply. just a few more questions if you could help out. i have the plain stock stereo and i want to put a double din in as well, but it looks like it won't fit? obviously yours was wide enough that you had to use spacers to cover the extra (is that a kit? or did you use something for spacers?), but the height (i was told) is only a din 1/2. How did you get yours to fit using a double din? Your faceplate doesn't look cut or shaved...

the radio you see there is a full double din, the spacers are a kit that i bought, it is basically just those 2 plastic pieces. they bolt to the side of the radio and then bolt to the stock mounting holes.
now, the bezel itself has had NO modifications from the factory. with those spacers, it is pretty much a stock fit.
behind the bezel, unfortunately, i had to take a dremel and tin snips and trim about a half inch of metal from both the top and the bottom.
I am expecting to have to pull everything out again to fix the pac adapter and add the SWC interface, so if and when i do i will try to take some photos of the inside. it is pretty ugly, which is why i didn't take them in the first place :-)

You could always order the double din bezel from the dealer. Usually $50 -$70.

That i what I have always done when adding after market Nav.

-The kit is for the 2008 Aspen. Ask for that and it'll fit in your truck
-The factory unit is 1.5 din but to fit nicely you will want to order a double din and just cut the medal frame behind the dash. It took me 5 minutes to cut the medal with a Dremel and cutting attachment.
-It's a tight fit on the plastic behind the dash trim you will have to remove. I got the sanding wheel on the dremel and sand the corners down a little. You'll know what i'm talking about when you're doing the install. Easy stuff

quick update on the pac unit....the fix was to tie the ground from the factory harness to the ground from the pac unit. they said that it was not making a good connection. so i did this and the problem seems to have worsened 10 fold. it has happened like 8 times in the same day since i have done the "fix" as opposed to only once per day before the fix. I like the idea that we are on to something here, but not to happy that it is in the opposite direction..
i am going to contact them on monday and see what tech support says

I'm sorry you are having problems and I'm sure you will get them fixed, however, this is re-enforcing my decision to keep everything factory this time around.
