Smile MDS Fuel Saver Light?

Hi guys, I know this has been discussed quite a bit but I'm wondering if the guys with the lights can help. I have still yet to find any details about what the range is that the light would be on. For example, up to 70 MPH, with a steady throttle, level grade, no wind etc. It is a major factor for me in deciding whether to buy this truck, I would like to know that the MDS feature will be usefull to me, generally travelling around 70 MPH. Any help is appreciated.

whether you get the light or not, you can still tell the difference between 8 and 4 based on sound. If you can't, just swap the muffler... right?

Mine is in fuel saver a lot, I don't have a light, but I do have a muffler that tells me. Pretty much anytime I am just maintaining speed, or slightly accellerating on level road. I can keep it in MDS even going up mild grades if I try. 70mph on level road is no problem. Will kick out at that speed if I accellerate to pass or hit an uphill grade. I have 3.55 gears and am turning about 1700-1800 rpms in those conditions. It is entirely load based, not speed or rpm dependent.

I really cannot tell, but I have the stock exhaust. It is also very windy in Iowa and I think I am normally using all 8 to keep it moving at speed on the highway.

To answer your question, SAM, it was on a break-in drive on the freeway at 60 - 65 mph (although with half the trip with the A/C on) and I have the 3.21 gearing.

It will probably get better after 4000-5000 miles.

The 3.21's really make a difference on the highway. What is you in town mileage?

With a light foot, and based on the EVIC readout, driving around town and a few trips to work (15 miles on freeway, some of it stop 'n go) Im at 17 mpg.

As soon as I get on the freeway, it starts going up. I gues if I want actual city mileage Ill have to do a reset while in town.

This is only my 2nd tank of gas since I got the truck though, so I'm still babying it.

Question What is the earliest production with MDS light/locking tailgate?

Who has the earliest model with the MDS light? I have heard November and December, but haven't had it confirmed by anyone that actually has it. Also, does anyone in Canada have one? I really don't want to have to listen all the time for my exhaust sound to change, I want to listen to the stereo. A light is basically a necessity (not quite but you know what I mean ) as I am driving. Thanks.

I get 11-12 in town. 3.92 gears, short trips, and cold weather = low mileage. I baby mine as well.

It is good to hear you get that for mileage.
