You guys are on to something. My dealer did the spark knock flash when I took mine in for the OAT wiring harness. I immediately felt less power in the seat of the pants test. My guess is that they retarded the timing a bit to make up for trash gas that some people are always intent on using. I was told that it was to raise the idle speed abit to make it smoother. The term "spark knock" tells me there is more to it than that. This update or flash is only on trucks built before a certain date like October. If your is after that, you may already have the "retarded" engine. Please remember, some of this is spec on my part. If you guys in the know, know better, let us all know.

Here is a link to known TSB's. For the hemi 2wd there are three, the idle rough and two for the transmission. . .

Default okay

No knock on anyone intended, but, at some point you just need to understand the updates are going to fix something, aside from the fact that it might change timing, fuel curve, etc, but the benefit will in the end outweigh the other factors.

also, the other obvious solution is to chip the system, NOT a send your PCM out, i did that, wont do it again, but the aftermarket bolts on PCMs

You know, I noticed that too after having them look at my OAT. I have to use more gas to get going now than what used to have to do. Before I took it in, I barely had to press the gas pedal. Now I have to push in on it quite a bit more to get moving. I wonder if they flashed it.

I took my truck in for a reflash of the PCM, and the truck ran WORSE afterwards, with noticeably less power, but also with noticeably less diesel smoke on cold mornings before the engine warmed up. Later, it came out on the diesel forum that the reflash I had taken my truck in for was in reality a reflash to make the truck more emissions compliant, and it actually decreased performance, just as I had thought from my seat of the pants impression. Since that time I have been more cautious about letting a dealer (or Dodge for that matter) reflash my vehicle. My current Hemi Laramie runs FANTASTIC, and as long as it keeps doing that it isn't going to be reflashed.

1+ They did something similiar on the 2nd gen gassers a few years after they came out. Chrysler started having issues with the plenum gaskets blowing out and pooling oil all over the place, causing fuel mileage to go way down, pinging under acceleration, and misfires.
Instead of doing a full recall, they just called in for a reflash on the PCMs' that retarded the timming to kill the power, and all the while reducing the strain on the stock steel to aluminum gasket mating.
It really sucked, but I think that that was the only thing that has saved my plenum fro blowing out on mine.
And no one worry this was only a 2nd Gen thing.
