Should Things be Rusted?
The truck was up on the lift today to get the resonators removed and I noticed that a few parts looked rusted already. I snapped a pic:

Is this normal?

I went to a Dodge dealer today here in town. They had a brand new Laramie on the showroom floor with 13 miles on the odometer. The floor was clean so I laid down and looked under the rear bumper and past the spare tire. Lo and behold... the center differential, axel and brake were rusted on both sides just like your photo shows. Hard to believe on a brand new truck with 13 miles. May have to get an F-150 after all.
I'd still get the Ram. I don't think the rust is going to affect anything really.
And if I get it fixed under warranty, I'm guessing it will just happen immediately again.

If I remember correctly, when I leased t my 3 gen, I read about a paint that is supposed to be applied before delivery by the dealer to the differential & axles. Ram that didnt receive that paint had rusted differentials weeks after beign sold
My 3 gen did rust a little , but it appears to be surface rust, even after 3 years. My 4th gen will receive a full antirust treatment as soon as I receive it.
The biggest rust issue for me is the front chrome bumper. Rust spots appear almost on a regular baisis and I grew tired of scrubbing them away each week. Hope the 4th gen holds up better
