Excuse me for the lack of information here..... On the passenger side of my 09 Crew under the dash is a black rectangular box that is covered by some type of insulation. The material slowly looses its grip and falls off. The stuff is like tar. Anyone know what the importance of this material is? I ended up removing the material from the device since it is an annoyance and leaves goo stuck to my floor.

 

I'd have to look to see which box, but I'm guessing it is the fan assembly and the insulation keeps the motor noise and air noise down in the cab.

 

I just took a closer look and yes it seems to be part of the entire fan/blower assembly. The foam/insulation is just below the bottom glove box handle.
With the sticky stuff off it doesn't affect noise (yet). I'll have it replaced at first check up.

 

I checked mine, it is insulated but not falling off.

 

Thanks guys. In the case that you notice it peeling away by chance try your best to keep it off the carpet... I didn't notice mine was on the floor while in Palm Springs (Hot) and the gue left a mess.

 

Definitely something to have fixed the next time you bring it in.
