I have owned the Escort X50 Passport 8500 model since 2004. Bought it for $399.00 from best buy and purchased the extended warranty. I had to replace it once under warranty, but other than that have not had any major issues. It is a very good quality product and the highway K and Ka detection range is impressive. Not to many false alarms and I love the fact that you can defeat the x band completely in-city. One tip for the guys that live in the southern states, don't leave your unit exposed to direct sunlight when parked. I live in Texas and I believe the excessive heat from the sun in the parked car lead to my malfunctioning unit. I know stash my unit in the console when not driving and have not had any problems. Think I will wait another year and then upgrade to the new model with the GPS chip. I have owned Bel tronic units in the past and they worked fine on the highway, but gave off false alarms around town (mostly x-band). Over all they did not last very long, usually the power cords would short out first or buttons would break. Then again what do you expect for $120 or less.
