Default 4x4 Switch options

I have noticed that some 4x4's have the choices 2wd, 4 hi, 4lo and a neutral button
then some have 2wd, 4 auto, 4hi, 4lo and a neutral button

Which one of these transfer cases is better to have...why the difference? Is this another after Dec/08 change?

no, they are two different transfer cases. The 4x4 auto is an option. Some people foolishly call it all wheel drive, but it is not. 4x4 auto simply keeps the truck in 2 wheel drive, until it detects a wheel slip. Then it engages the transfer case into 4 wheel drive until the slip condition is gone. Then it goes back to two wheel drive. It is good for spotty traction where the roads are two dry for 4x4, but slick enough in spots that 4x4 would really help.

Makes me wonder, I had a Durango with that and it was never in 2wd even though the switch said 2wd you could not spin the rear tires and that 360 had power and torque enough to spin the tires. Even in the snow it would not slip in 2wd. So I am wondering do I actually have 2wd, Seems to have too much traction even with the all the traction crap turned off.
