Question Phantom A/C

I noticed this occasionally on my 06 as well. But the last two days I've had the **** on cold air but NOT A/C. The light is off and it's not on max a/c. On my drive's home the air blowing out definitely feels colder than it should be with the A/C off. Is there something I'm missing? Why would the a/c kick on from time to time on it's own?

Is the defroster on? That will run the compressor and cool the air.

Good point.... with that though wouldn't the indicator on the **** light up? I'll check it in the morning. It probably is because I turn it on in the morning and never move it in the afternoon.

The light won't come on, I noticed it the other day when I had the vents going and was cold then relized that I had it up to the defroster partly.

this first happend to me a few months ago. i took it in to get it looked at and the service guy had no idea what it was doing. got the head mechanic out to look at it and ..... its soppose to come on!
i was freaking out a bit because it was -40C outside and my a/c was coming on!! but he said it is suppose to do this for 2 reasons. 1. to lubricate the a/c pump 2. it humidifys the air when it is to dry.

he assured me not to worry when my a/c comes on magically!

The compressor runs while the defroster is on to Dehumdify the air, it will clear the moisture quicker from the wind shield. This is stated in the manual and has been common in most late model vehicles, my 2002 exploder did this as well.
