No, but I would question why bother on a MyGig?

Just upload the Ipod's contents to the MyGig and save the money and inconvenience of installation.

Just my 2 cents, but I have 30GB of music on the computer, a 16GB Iphone, and have uploaded a couple of GB to the MyGig, so I'm not short of music to listen to. Don't need the Iphone music (though the Uconnect bluetooth thing is excellent, and worth the money I paid for the RER radio that I didnt want/need for nav).

 

Because I don't have an MyGig. I only have the RES version with the uconnect.

 

Unfortunately for some we have music that is MP4 protected (iTunes) and we'll have to convert them to MP3. Otherwise the unprotected music on the ipod will easily download to the Rams' head unit.

 

how do you convert from mp.4 to the mp.3 to play on unconnect? my ipod wont work in my truck

 

Gotcha. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

For converting from MP4 to MP3, it depends on how you got the music in the first place. If you ripped a CD, and the encoder was set to MP4 at the time, then:

1. Set the encoder to MP3 in preferences in iTunes
2. Right click on the track(s) and select "Convert to MP3"
3. Show the tracks in Finder, and copy to USB stick.
4. Import to MyGig.

There are Applescripts available to automate this for playlists and albums.

If you purchased from the iTunes store, then you'll have to use ITunes to burn an audio CD, then import the audio CD to the MyGig.

The above is for Apple, BTW. ITunes on Windows is similar, so I would think the methodology is the same.

 

you can find converters that will convert audio files from just about anything to just about anything. www.download.com is a good place to look. Just search for "audio converter". I have used a couple different ones, they are all free and all do what you need them to do. Good luck.

 

iPod integration is different than USB "Music File Import" or AUX "Play-thru".

Hooking an MSD-mode iPod to the USB simply makes it a high-priced thumb-drive with a lot of unused/unusable features. Hooking an iPod to the AUX cable gives your iPod the meanest 9-speaker 5-passenger shared headset around. But the iPod interface gives you control over the basic Playback functions of the iPod via your MyGig / Steering Wheel Controls. Or at least that is what the literature promises...

I held-off ordering this iPod Integration Cable so that I would have a chance to experience how well the MyGig 30MB+ worked first. While I may well be able to stuff more-than-enough road music into the MyGig, first impressions are that the User Interface and Playlist features are weak enough to be a permanent frustration. If so, the iPod Cable will be on my shopping list shortly.

 

100% agreed. The thread had moved on though to talk about how to rip MP4s. Ergo, one needs a Mygig to do that.

Agree that the UI of the MyGig isn't as good as an iPod (I was trying scroll gestures, like the iPhone, only to be disappointed..).

However, what trumps it for me is the ballache and expense of having the iPod cable installed. No, the MyGig isn't as good as an iPod, but I've got one. It cost me $32,000 too. But I did get a free truck

 

So, back to the question at hand. Has anyone added the ipod integration to their RES stereo? I love my ipod, and would like to be able to run it from the headunit instead of from the ipod. That's the primary advantage of an Ipod over other MP3 players, the level of specific support out there for them.
