anyone use there 4 wheel drive in the last couple of years under regular driving( no off roading) ? i read that the ram 1500 comes equipped with standard part time 4 wheel drive, so i was thinking about using the $3500 that the 4x4 costs and getting other options. what do you guys think?

I use four wheel drive in the winter all the time. Four wheel drive is not standard; don't know where you are reading that. There are 2 wheel drives, 4x4s, and 4x4 autos.

I agree. I think your confusing the fact that 4x4's come with "standard part time 4 wheel drive". There is also an optional automatic system that kicks in when it needs to if set on automatic. This system still has a 4 hi and 4 lo. My 07 Laramie had it. I hated it because it never kicked in until you were spinning your tires. Not a good feeling on the highway when the rear end breaks loose in the snow. My 09 TRX4 just has the regular 4 wheel drive system.

Depends where you live, in Delaware we rareley see snow. Any snow we do see is minor, yeah a 4x4 will help but, its nothing a 2wd with traction control can't handle. Around here any mass amount of snow and we go into State of Emergency and everything closed and you can't be on the road. I only got 4x4 to take my truck on the beach and maybe that rare once every 5 years snow storm...

Yeah, it depends on how bad the snow is where you are.
