I want to see this mod...
Some of you might think I am crazy but, I really don't care if my dodge has 400 horse. I didn't buy it for that. I needed a larger vehicle I bought it for ride quality. This thing is basically the family car.
That being said, I want a switch that puts it in 4 cylinder mode and keeps it on. I think that I would be able to get better mpgs that way. My 1998 chevy 5.0 liter has 184 horse and that is plenty for me.

i dont think that running a 8 cylinder motor with only 4 cylinders firing (all the time) would be good, plus i would bet doing something like that would void warrenty. as stated i think you should have gotten something different or even the smaller motor if you wanted milage. i for one will not be the guinea pig.

hate to break it you but in 4 cylinde rmode you wont make it over speed bump without spining tires and you would be using more gas because your engine would haft to work harder just like the geniouses who buy 6 cylinder trucks and bitch cause they get bad gas mileage.
I agree, if you drive like an idiot, the mileage would be just as bad, because the engine would work harder. but I don't believe that if you drive nice that driving around in 4 cylinder mode would strain this engine. I guarantee I can get just as good of mpg if not better out of my 1998 184 HP Chevy Silverado as my 2009 Dodge. So your argument that less power = less gas mileage doesn't really make sense.

It takes more power to get up to speed. That's why the MDS kicks in after your up to speed and not while accelerating. Smaller engines work harder to get up to speed than larger engines. That's why the MPG on the window sticker is the same for a 4.7 and 5.7.
