Default Child Seat - HELP!!

Both my wife and I have read the instructions forwards backwards and upside down trying to make sense of the proper way to attach the tether strap of our son's child seat. Seems to me the instructions in the vehicle manual don't actually match what's in the truck. What I think are the anchors are behind the seats where I can barely fir my hands, and they don't feel to be deep enough to hook onto. I'm afraid if I try to get hooked and am successful, I'll never get it off again!

Anybody else figured this out, please help. My son wants togo for a ride in Daddy's new truck! Thx!

Hell throw hiim in the back, remember the olden days the old man would load us all kids in the back some of our friends but a truck load of kids and he would drive us 50 miles to the beach on the highway. Would never consider it now but I think if you take the kid around the block a few times with the strap and not the tether you would be safe unless you live on the QEW or 401 LOL. For fun I was looking, makes no sense to me either

mine is anchored in the middle of the seat. They are in the crease between the seat and the back of the seat. They're just little square pieces stuck in there.

Don't know what to say. There is always a way to get something out, do what you got to do. Just make sure it's not going to come undone when you dont want it to. My son is still in the backward position and we lock it in with the seet belt. Can't even remember to when my daughter was in one.

It's forward facing so it's hooked up to the LATCH system and also supposed to be tethered from the top.

No matter what the solution is,seems pretty poor to me compared to all the other vehicles I've owned. It would have been simple enough to put the anchor in the floor and just drop the tether down behind the seat when you fold the seat up.

Oh well - still need help if anyone's got it!

I feel your pain - just did this myself last weekend.

My 5 month old son is still in a reverse seat that's also a carrier, so the reciever piece just used the two latch posts that are in the seat itself - no problem.

My 2 1/2 year old's chair on the other hand - oh boy. The picture in the manual does NOT match what is actually in the truck. If you feel around you will find a squared metal latch loop on each side behind the middle of the bench. There may be three, but I only found two.

First time put it behind the driver's seat and had to read and re-read the instructions. I ran the top belt under the head rest and through the fabric loop so that the latch clipped onto the bracket behind the center of the bench. I don't have gigantic hands but it was difficult getting to the right spot. Luckily I have the rear window so was able to make a little room to negotiate. I squeezed one hand through the top while feeling with the other hand between the split in the seats to guide it onto the latch bracket.

As tough as that was, getting that strap tightened was a whole other effort. trying to make it properly tight was tough because as you tighten it it's natural tendancy is to get as straight as possible. This meant fighting the head rest posts as I still wanted to lower the head rest when I was done.

After all the fuss I decided to put it in the center so he could have a nice view of where we're going. This time it was a bit easier since it was almost a straight line over the bench, through the loop then down to the latch bracket behind the seat. Still had to fight the head rest posts but eventually worked it tight enough so the seat didn't have any sway.

The really sad part of the design is that there is so much more room to work with when you raise the bench - like when you want to access the under seat storage. Unfortunately you can't raise the bench when you have a car seat sitting on it. If your top tether strap is long enough, try raising the bench and attaching it first before you connect the lower two latch clips.

I found that the fabric loops were not very good for holding the straps in proper position for tightening them They'd been better off with some other metal posts for routing the straps, or even - duh - a latch post behind each of the three rear bench positions. Whoever designed it definitely didn't have to use it.

by the way - mine was a crew cab - you'd think that'd make it easier, but probably not.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Cheers to you SoonerBob!

I was hoping to get the seat in the middle, as my guy also likes to have the view. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but you tethered to the latch behind the middle seat, not to the passenger side as suggested in the manual?

Our seat shows a "level to ground" line on the side, looks like it will actually be leaning forward a bit as is. Did you have this issue and were you able to get a towel/blanket under the seat to level it out? The challenge on this is the shallower seat in the middle.

The seat does hang over just a tad - like you said the middle is a bit shallower than the rest.

I did clip it slightly to the side, on the right side as you're looking at the back window. So it wasn't a straight line from the middle of the head rest. The diagram in the manual caused me more confusion, either that or it looks totally different without the seat blocking the view. Hard to describe, but the latch was right at the split between the 60/40 bench. If there's another position then I missed it.

Not sure about the tilt, if there's any then it's not much. The towel trick should work, at least it did in our 300.

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow to see if that helps. Who knows - I may be needing help still. I'm not real worried though, the seat is very tight.

I never could figure out the latch behind the seat. I ended up just using the seat belt and the seat is very tight.
