Default Bed Cover

I may be answering my own question, but here goes.
What good is a bed cover if you do not have a locking tailgate? I want a bed cover but my tailgate has no lock.
I need a cover asap as I am going on vacation. Can't wait to get on the open road in my new beast. Going about 3000 miles round trip, 2 weeks.

I have one and never lock it. If I was going to store something of value permenantly and didn't have the locking tailgate, I would have it in a locking box under the cover. I would ask myself if there are situations where I would have valuables in the bed and not be around. I like the cover only so stuff doesn't blow out, get snowed or rained on.

To keep stuff dry and clean. Soft bed covers don't provide any security regardless of the tailgate.

You would need a full fiberglass tonneau, such as a Leer 800 etc. These types of covers come down over the top of the tailgate almost to the very top of the taillight. However, I don't know if they are available for the '09's due to the large tailgate cover that comes standard on our new trucks. These types of tonneaus, when locked, prevent the tailgate from being opened.

Correct. There are hard covers that come down over the tailgate and prevent it from being unlocked. The Undercover is a good example. There is really no point to a locking tailgate with a soft cover.

This is the cover I have. It does lock by attaching itself to the tailgate. You cannot open the tailgate without opening the cover. It is a hardcover and I think its great. See a picture in my profile.

That would really tick me off. I assume there is a way to disable that "feature" if you have a locking tailgate?

The undercover goes over the tailgate lip, so there is no way to open the tailgate without lifting the cover.

don't think you can but really not a big deal. its a tri- fold so I just lift the lid cover a quick second while I open the tailgate at the same time. Don't even need to fold the cover back. Just lift it for a second until tailgate is opened. Aside from that, nice top. During rain or wash, I get a few drops of water in there so not waterproof but certainly nothing to worry about.

I think the Undercover is some good bang for buck, just don't really need a cover yet.
