Trans failure?
Sorry to hear of the problem and hope it works out under warranty. I hope this is an isolated case. I had a 96 Ram which had 3 transmissions (2 rebuilds, 1 new) within 56K. I never towed or hauled heavy loads and followed the service intervals. I purchased the new Ram thinking by now Dodge had the transmission figured out in the 09 models.
Doesnt mean yours will, thats just the numbers lol.
I keep hearing about Dodge and tranny failures. I guess that I have been lucky. I put 130K on a 95 Ram and 135 on my 02 Ram with never any type of tranny issue. I have however put new trannies in my 04 Silverado at 52K miles and my 03 Yukon at 105K miles. My Silverado never even had a trailer attached to it. My Ram tow several heavy trailers usually during the heat of the summer. I will take my Mopars over those crappy L460E GMs.
The trans in our trucks is the same one that they use in the grand cherokees and other veh been around alongtime with out any issues , its either a leak and its low on fluid or its has a major probelm but this is not a issue with this trans we all have to worry about its a failure that happens its man made and things man made break sometimes doesnt mean its bad quality.
"We see our retail number as a shining light of positive news," said Jim Press President and Vice Chairman - Chrysler LLC. "By working together with our strong dealer body, we will continue to move the needle on sales and service. Additionally, our focus on quality is evident in the 2009 Dodge Ram, which continues to demonstrate our ability to improve the quality of our products. Recently reported data is not representative of the positive progress Chrysler has made over the last year. In the last 12 months, our corporate warranty claim rates are down over 30 percent."

I really dont believe he is beating it. Number one he is paying for it. It was bought for dependability because his old car is a 94 buick we didn't want to depend on. He drove that for years no problem and an 88 cougar before that no problem. He is back in the Buick because they wouldn't give him a loaner.
Sucks to hear about your Tranny man. I hope all gets fixed and truck gets back to you quickly.
This doesn't mean the new RAM is junk, crap just happens and unfortunetly it happened to you.
You are the first person on two boards I frequent in which this happened. I can't say that about the 09 F-150 and I personally know two people whose GM Truck's tranny crapped out before 20K miles.

I, too, feel for your son! Not fun when you expect a high priced piece of equipment fails!!! But as others have stated, it is a "piece of equipment"!
The biggest thing is no accident or injury resulted from the failure!!!
