Modern Muscle Throttle Body

I decided to install a Modern Muscle 5 axis CNC ported throttle body on my RAM. I have been skeptical of throttle body changes, but after talking to Dave, the owner, he convinced me to give it a try. He seems to have the dyno sheets to back up his claims and I believe he offers a generious guarantee. People on other hemi car forums seem to like is products, so I ordered one

The first thing I noticed is a real nice improvement in driveability. Off idle and any transistion change is so much smoother then before. Butt dyno is hard to say, but it seems to pull slightly better WOT. Dave reports that the MDS seems to kick in sooner and stay on longer after the change resulting in a slight mpg increase. I have not run it long enough to confirm this, but it seems to make sense to me. The throttle body is a new one that is very nicely smoothed and blended on the inlet and exit sides. Quality is very good.

So, how much was it..... how tough was it to install..... was it worth the money and how badly did it void your powertrain warranty?

The throttle body was $315 plus shipping, and the install was a easy 10 minute change. You just have to disconnect 2 electrical plugs, loosen the intake tube clamp, remove four 8mm TB screws and swap the units. Not much to it. Voiding the warranty - I have never heard of anyone with a denied warranty claim because of a TB change. I guess its possible, but since I still have the OEM one, I can switch them back very easily if needed.

Honestly, I don't even think the dealer would notice the difference of throttle bodies.

they might notice a lean condition and trace it... or some increased airflow....

The PCM will compensate the increase in airflow with more fuel.

From service manual,
The PCM uses the MAP sensor input to aid in calculating the following:


  • Manifold pressure
  • Barometric pressure
  • Engine load
  • Injector pulse-width
  • Spark-advance programs
  • Shift-point strategies (certain automatic transmissions only)
  • Idle speed
  • Decel fuel shutoff
Some more,
The MAP sensor is used as an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). It contains a silicon based sensing unit to provide data on the manifold vacuum that draws the air/fuel mixture into the combustion chamber. The PCM requires this information to determine injector pulse width and spark advance.


But yes, they may be able to see more airflow.
