Default First rattle/squeak

Where has the week gone, thursday and my first post in the open forum....

Anyway, I have developed a rattle/squeak. It is the center console (no not the RRT for the seat), it is indeed the center console.

Is it the second (lower) latch. When closed it will squeak/rattle. If I lay my arm on the console, which it usually is anyhow, it will not make the noise. If I open it, or even hold the latch open with it closed it will not make the noise. So I have figured it out to be the latch itself where it clips into the console. It is very tight. I think the fix may be to take a ever so small amount of rubber off the two front stops that are under the cover. That would not keep the latch so tight and let it sit slightly lower, ie like it is when my arm is laying on it applying pressure. Although I do not plan on taking much off, to loose would be equally as bad.

Anyone else have this? Maybe you do and do not know as your arm also lays on the console. I can not hear it with the radio on.

That sucks. I was happy to get rid of the solid motor mount caused rattles of my old car.

I don't have any, yet I don't have the cool lower console either.

Well, I would not say it sucks. The ones that suck are the ones you can not find! I feel confident my fix will work, and if not (gets worse), I only need to replace the two rubber stops.

Of course I could take it back and complain, but last thing I would want is for them to accept the issue then say something like we have to pull the entire console out. They would end up fixing one and breaking two.

Mine has two squeaks now. Its all related to the plastic on plastic. The first rattle/squeak is between plastic that surrounds the radio. The second is the chrome ring that sits around the center console shifter. I going to get into the dealer next week if all goes according to plans. I stopped the first squeak by wedging a small piece of cardboard between the two pieces of plastic. I'm not real hopeful the dealer is going to be able to permanently fix the problems.

I have this same squeak on the trim around the shifter, it drives me nuts. My whole dash also squeaks on bumpy roads, I can grab the lower corner driver side and make it do it sitting still. I am a bit disappointed in the fit and finish quality.

I had a rattle that I chased around for days. I almost tore into the dash. That is when I noticed that the passenger side sun visor wasn't clipped into the holder. LOL
I havent had any squeaks as of yet. Other than the brakes at times.

That is exactly how I feel about it, especially where there is not going to be a fix in the book, I brought my truck back because the nerfs were rattling, they said they could not fix it unless I want screws put into my rockers. I said just leave it. With a couple pieces of thin rubber, tire tubing I believe my broinlaw got under, i made it rattle he found the spots where the brackets where vibrating, I push down so it made a space he stuck a little bit of rubber in there and wow it's gone for now probably for ever since I had it oill sprayed since then.

It is fixed. I also think I should not have called it a rattle, it was a squeak/creek.

I ended up just putting a little grease in the hole where the latch hooks to, see pic.

I see you snagged a coin holder for your console. I kept mine out of my 07 when I turned it in.

I do not have a squeak with the center console, but I do with the plastic trim around the shifter... it's quite annoying, although usually I have the radio up loud enough to not hear it.

It sort of reminds me of all of the squeaks I had in my '05 Crossfire. That thing was FULL of plastic on plastic noise from behind the seats.
