I am also new. This site is just like jeepforum.com so I figured it's probably pretty good. I just bought an '09 Ram QC 4x4 with the 5.7 and 3.92's a few days ago. I'm new to the Dodge and I'm used to the older engines; I had a 1977 Jeep CJ7 and after that a 1978 Jeep CJ5 both with the AMC 304. I learned what I know off those vehicles and I am really good with carbs and squeezing as much out of them I could. With this new fandangled EFI technology and whatnot I'm slightly lost. I wanna squeeze a few extra MPGs outta the Ram and add some horsepower. I'm looking for something that is worth the bucks but isn't gonna break the bank. So with all these microchips, crazy exhausts systems and cold air intakes that I haven't really taken the time to learn about which one gives me the best run for my money. I hear a lot of guys talking about the XDI system and it looks pretty nice. To me, it seems like that would be a good deal. Exhaust systems are a bit expensive out here in HI so I think I'll steer clear of them for now. Lastly, the computers seem to be a good bit expensive plus everyone else seems to be wanting to wait for Diablo to finish on whatever they are working on. Anybody have some advice for a guy that is just coming to terms with todays engines?

The programmers will probably be the best way to get some more mpg's.
You have the worst set up for mileage though. 3.92's plus the Hemi = 13's city and 17-18 highway. I have the same set up. If you really want mileage, get 3.21's or 3.55's.

While the XDI looks nice, there is controversy whether it actually makes HP and gas mileage.

I am in the same boat. I want the 3.21 mileage for everyday driving!!
I also just purchased a 2009 Ram 1500 Reg Cab,Hemi(390HP) with 3.92's gears, mineral grey(love the color)about 2 weeks ago.Test drove the 09 F150 and the Siverado, the Dodge was so much better for a crazy low price on top of that.I'm not worried about the MPG,you buy a Hemi with 3.92's,it is what it is.I'm absolutely in love with this truck(first Dodge)The one thing I will say is that it takes 87 octane and 89 is recommended......................Kevin.
You're right about it taking 87, but one thing to keep an eye out for is spark knocking. It's not nearly as prevalent as it once was, but some gas companies or stations still water down there gasoline. Typically they only water down the regular in order to get people to upgrade to 89+ to correct the problem they think their engine has. Even if you are actually getting 87 octane fuel, it's a good idea to keep an ear out for spark knocking. Long as the 87 works out though, that's 20 cents worth of savings on each gallon. That's pretty significant to me.
