Is not the problem that Apple changed the voltage on newer ipod, touches and phones so you need that newer cable for the newer I-whatever.

 

Yes, Apple changed something in the cord interface hat makes certain newer iPod/iPhone models require different functionality for charging. But that was almost two years ago. There is no excuse for Dodge to offer a cable claiming 'iPod/iPhone integration' in 2010 that does not work with several generations of the devices that have been out since late 2008. Even though I think Apple is a money-grubbing, snobbish company that intentionally makes changes like this to cause users to have to buy new accessories, if some other company (Dodge) wants to play in the high-tech field and offer integration with fast-paced consumer electronics they need to adapt and stay current. If the iPod change happened after a truck is produced I'd expect Dodge to offer a new cable that works, at a reasonable price and in reasonably quick timeframe. If the change happened before the truck is produced (say 6 months or so, for sufficient supply leadtime) I'd expect Dodge to provide a functional cable with the vehicle. So, Dodge = Fail in this case.

They offer the new cable, if you have RER they have a whole new harness you put in piggy backing your radio wires.
For the REN for the OEM installed I don't know but for the Mopar uconnect there are two cables available one for the older and one for the newer model ipod or touch or phone.

 

Got the new cable yesterday. The one #82212001. It has a white end and is made in China. Works just fine for charging a current gen iPod Touch.

Not sure what you're getting at. If you're referring to the age of the device, the 'current gen iPod' is almost 1.5 years old, which is far older than my 2010 truck.

Well, my dealer's parts department sucks, so don't judge by them. They said it was something like $46 retail and $34 employee cost (remember, my sales guy ended up buying it for me). If you Google the part number though (82212001), you can find them for sale right around $30.

So we have to pay for Dodges mistake ? They should have asked us while we were in the buying process "which cord do you NEED ?" This is bull**** that i got what they gave me , not what I needed for one of their Options I paid for, to work.

 

For my own sanity .. I have an 09 Ram Laramie, loaded - RER system, etc. I ordered part number 82211853. Took apart the dash, the works ... unplugged the cables from the radio, plugged them in to the new cable and then the new cable in to the head unit. The radio was black, wouldn't even turn on. Zippy!! From my perspective it couldn't be any more straight forward of an install, but when nothing happens, I always question me first, before the part. I plugged my original wire back in to test it ... that works fine ... re-hooked up the new cable and again, nothing. Needless to say, I'm sending that cable back (appeared that it may have been used) and hoping it's just a bad cable.

It really is just plug and play right?! I am using the correct part number right?? Or am I supposed to be using #82212001??? Any thoughts where I could have gone wrong or anyone care to confirm that it's just a bad part???
