Default Surging between 40 and 55?

My truck has been surging between 40 and 55 on straight and level ground, sometimes a slight uphill grade as well. It's not MDS. It's like the torque converter is locking in and out. I don't really feel the whole truck surging, but I can hear the motor surging...

I thought a read a thread a few months ago about the early trucks needing some kind of flash for the computer to fix this, but I can't seem to find the tread.

Any ideas?
