Don't get me wrong it's a good idea for some people and maybe for me in some situations, but when you open the tailgate with your truck full of wood on #5 rocks chances are it's not going to survive. Not to mention 2x4s, various metals, oh believe me, I would find a way.

I had one for five years on my 2004 QC. It was a great accessory. The tailgate on the '04 was much heavier than the '09. My wife and kids (all over twelve) hated opening it without the EZ Down. Afterward, they did not complain. I tried to take it off before I turned it in but the bolt was rusted to the tailgate. I didn't have time to mess with it. I will get a new one for the '09.

I wonder how tough it would be to just put a tighter spring inside the tailgate, or a rotary air cylinder. Seems like that would be the logical place for Dodge to make an upgrade like this - using the existing tailgate assist that is built into the hinge.

How about that. Is that truck 2wd or 4wd?

Good thing the EZ Down is on there or he would have a big old goose egg on his head. So in some cases it is indeed useful. That one seems to work smoother than the one I have. Mine kinda falls a little before slowing. Not much but looks like your's is slow from as soon as it is let go.

2wd.
it is very smooth, speed-wise topgun. i hope the damper retains it's effectiveness over a period of a few years but who knows. i think the warranty is only 1 year.
