Overall they're a bad idea. However, piece of mind is everything to some people, so it could make it worth it. The Extended Warranties at closing are typically what you can find on your own, but with dealer markup lopped on. It's just another way the dealer can squeeze you for that last little bit of cash. Generally most companies will give you a chance to get an extended warranty right before your new car one is over. By then you should know if you're really going to need it. Maybe I'm lucky, but so far there's been only one crappy car (GM) that it was even worth thinking about. Of course extended warranties make even less sense when it comes to your RAM, since you're the original owner and have a lifetime powertrain warranty.

Lifetime powertrain warranty just covers the powertrain, nothing else. For example, if you have any air conditioner problems you can expect to pay around $1000 just for the 1 repair. I bought one with this truck. The warranty is pro-rated if you get rid of the truck. I bought the lifetime bumper to bumper warranty for $1900

For as much as this truck cost and the fact that I plan on driving it for at least the next 8 to 10 years, I did opt for the optional lifetime bumper to bumper warranty. Figured for the $1800 it cost it would more than pay for itself after the truck hits 100,000 miles especially since I put 30,000 miles a year on it. It's peace of mind.

I dont think you can go wrong with the MaxCare Lifetime bumper to bumper warranty Chrysler offers, especially if your like me and tend to drive your vehicles till the wheels fall off. Just watch out what they charge you, I notice some people got it for like $1800, they got me for like $2800 but being I got such a great deal on the pickup I cant complain too much and at least they threw in like 16 free oil changes to go with it. Needless to say it pays to do your homework.

There are just too many bells and whistles in these trucks that can break. We all know that if it can go wrong, it will go wrong. I too plan on keeping my truck for a long time and I figured if the AC needs some form of repair or the mygig craps out, its already paid for itself. To each his own though.
