Well it depends on many things, but if the filter is just a drop in it won't see as much dirt as an open one. Since my setup on my 04 is an open filter I am staying away from oiled cotton like k&n. On another note for everyone here w/ newer trucks still being broken in this is a cool product to check out http://www.shopfiltermag.com/index.php
FWIW, I recommend this vendor if you want a proven magnet filter to protect both your engine and/or your transmission. Plus they are less expensive. I've used them on my personal and business vehicles. My highest mileage vehicle so far is a 1998 Caravan with 160,000 miles. With no engine or transmission problems. And yes I follow regular recommended fluid changes.
Funny you mentioned Boss Products! We are a dealer for them and use them as our main synthetic supplier! My truck has been on Boss since the first oil change w/ a Lucas Synthetic additive.
I WISH I had this test done after our 4000Km towing vacation! Mind you I pbly would have had a heart attack to! Lol
