Default Some sort of sensor ?

For those that have the overhead console there seems to be a round sensor or lens or something right in the middle of the overhead console, does any one know what it is ? I looked in the book but did not see any thing.

You must have the automatic temperature controls? If so, it's the infrared temperature sensor. Tells the control to add heat or cooling.

the one on the mirror is for the dimming mirror...if it's dark in the front and bright from the rear, then it knows to dim. If it's bright on both sides then it knows it's daytime, and not to dim.

Yup.

At night, engine running, lights on/auto, look at the center console, and then put your hand over the mysterious overhead device.

All will be revealed. A Mercedes thing, cabin ambience.

The green light is there as well as the temp sensor. They look similar in size.

Just another example that the dealer has no idea what they're talking about...the hole at the front is the cabin tempuature sensor for the automatic temp control. There are probably trucks out there that have the senor with the manual controls, but it is not hooked up. Mine has manual controls and just a hole with no sensor. My durango has two of these for the dual climate zones. Since these trucks do not have dual zones, there is just one.
