Default Another iPhone/Uconnect question

iPhone users, how did you download your contacts on to your uconnect radio?

it should do it automatically. do you see contact info when an incoming call is received?
if no:
which iphone are you using?
firmware updated?
iphone updated?

I dont know much about it, I just got the phone yesterday. Its the 3g with the 3.0 firmware (unlocked and running t-mobile)

I haven't tried to pair it yet, I'll have to see if it downloads the contacts when I do.

The incoming call data (names) is spotty for me. I'll always get the calling number on the incoming call, but some names work, others don't. And it's not specific people's names that don't work, sometimes my wife's name will show, and sometimes her's won't. I've never had a problem placing calls, other that it not understanding what I said.

Oh, and I've got the RER unit with 1.220 software and my iPhone is a 3G with 3.0 software.

It shouldn't actually try to download the contacts. It'll just communicate with the phone and query the contacts. Of course perhaps I'm missing something and that's why I have the incoming calls missing names sometimes.

I disagree. Mine DID download the contacts when I paired it. This can be proved. Shut the phone off (or its bluetooth) and look in contacts on the radio. If they are there, it's downloaded them.

The reason for the sometimes different caller display is probably nothing to do with the phone or the truck. The local cellular infrastructure may not send the caller ID exactly the same way as it is stored in the phone (and hence the radio). If it does not match (ie with the 1 or not), then it will show the number and not correlate it with the name. This is just the calling number, let alone caller ID considerations (not the same thing as calling number).

If the call transited a network outside the cellular network, then this info can be corrupted/lost entirely.

minutiae alert:

warhorse is actually right, the iphone DOES NOT physically download numbers onto the hard drive (at least mine didn't). it retrives the contact from the phone on as needed basis. (the voice recognition works better than any other i've seen btw) my previous phone, blackberry device, DID perfrom a "download" onto the hard drive after pairing, go figure.
the info from an incoming call comes only from the info stored on the phone, i would assume, b/c i never see any info unless the incoming call is one of my contacts.

I should have tried it before I asked. ALL of my contacts did download from my iPhone on to my uconnect radio.

There is a setting under bluetooth on the iPhone that allows you to download all contacts. I know it is saved on the HD because the names show up on the screen when you go to phonebook.

Thanks for the help!

Hmmm, I'll have to give that a shot. I probably missed it when I paired the phone. I was pretty enamored with all the other options of the truck when I got it.

It is definitely cool. Would be much cooler if we could sync the iPhone to play music, via bluetooth, through the radio (without cables).
