Thanks for the info Pyro. I might try to swing by the 4 wheel parts store tomorrow to see if they can hook me up and what it'll cost. I think anything around 4.00 and I'd be happy.

Just an FYI when dealing with 4 Wheel Parts, they will quote you high. Get quotes from another shop, even if it's one you don't intend to use, because 4 Wheel Parts will price negotiate if you have quotes from competing shops. I know of several people that had gears done at 4 Wheel Parts and paid 300-400 less than the initial quote because they shopped around and got 4WP to deal.

I am the proud owner of a 2009 Ram 1500 Sport 4x4 with numerous mods and I'll post photos soon. My truck has the 3.55 gear.

What I'm asking is: Does the 09 Ram 1500 have the old standard "vanilla" Chrysler rear end with 9.25" diameter ring gear, 31 splines, 12 bolts, etc...because if so, I can get just about any brand limited slip unit to bolt up as long as it fits that rear end.

OR...since Chrysler uses American Axle now instead of Dana...is the rear axle different and therefore require a different differential fit?

Thanks for any help...
Did not American Axle pack it it?

Not sure I understand the question but if you are asking if AA put it in already? Mine is 3.55 so no LS...only the 3.92 gets LS from the factory in 09. I have no idea why this is, just that it is.

I sent an email to AA for their recommendation for an LS unit and they have not replied yet (2 days ago).

To answer your question war horse, you can change out gears and diffs without changing the entire axle. Certain dodge dealerships will change out your gears, but usually will only do it for available factory ratios, and likewise most will only install a chrysler "anti-spin" lsd. If you want aftermarket parts, the dealer will most likely not touch it, and you will need to find a performance or off-roading shop such as 4 wheel parts.

And just throwing my $0.02 out there, avoid the factory lsd. If you are serious about upgrading go to shop that does that kind of work, and get good gears in your desired ratio, and put in an auburn lsd or detroit tru-trac. Genuine gear, yukon, and motive all make quality gears for the 9.25" axle. I recently swapped my 3.92s and stock lsd for 4.56 gears and an auburn, and that was easily the best mod i've done to my truck and worth every penny.

I thought American Axle closed is what I meant, but now I am thinking it is just the plant in Detroit that was closed. I remember seeing it on the news not that long ago that American Axle was closing....I think it was just he plant in Detroit/Hamtramck. Probably another Mexico move.

Okay I remember what I saw, AA are applying for bankruptcy since the plants closed and probably didn't pay AA

bump...does anyone know or can anyone confirm that we have 31 spline shafts in the rear axle. We already know that we have the 9.25" 12 bolt rear pumpkin but I have not heard if we have the 31 spline axles or not.

I have to chime in here cause I too have the 3:55's and asked at the dealer about the cost of installing a sure-grip LSD unit in the truck.

I was told WE CAN'T!! Apparantly if you want to add a LSD either MOPAR or Aftermarket you will loose you factory traction control feature??

This seems insane to me!

Anyone else heard this?

2 different Canadian dealers have told me this!

I was wondering about this as well... Simply if the ESP programming is different for trucks without limited slip as the 2 systems would be fighting each other... Couldn't they just do a reprogram for build codes on the truck to change the programming through starscan? Sorry off topic
