Does anyone know if a REN radio with sat but no uconnect can have a mic plugged in to work the voice recognition and not the uconnect or is the VR built into the uconnect part?

 

I just installed Uconnect in my 09. I wanted a backup camera and uconnect so I bought a REN radio, Uconnect, and a factory camera. I had heard that YES, the mike will work...but I could not make mine work. Checked the mygig functions and it never game me the option to turn on the mike. So I am guessing that must work on the RER system and not the REN. But to answer your question....NOTHING worked until the dealer re-flashed my truck which turned on the Uconnect and mike, and camera too.

I was told by the dealer if things don't work and I have he update cd just run that and I willl be all set.

 

I think with the REN you have to have the seperate U-Connect module. Can't remember the part number right mow but do a search, there's another thread with the part numbers.

 

I installed a REN in my 09 you need to have the seperate Uconnect module that mounts to the passanger side kick pannel and then plugs into the REN harness the RAR has uconnect built in. I also installed a lockpick v2 with a aftermarket license plate camera works great and I can tilt it up and down. Also added an additional rear reat LCD display.
