Question Question about 08/09 4X4 system

Would you be able to take a wrecked 08 dodge ram 4X4 system and do a direct bolt-on to a 09 dodge ram non-4X4?
thx.

Default Bolt on

I don't believe you be able to do that, for one the suspension is completely different, as Dodge went from leaf springs in 08 to coil springs in 09. I would do a lot of investing into making sure everything lines up, like the frames mounts, engine parts mounting, drive train, etc.

That's what I was thinking, but the front end should be the same. I believe the 08 had front coil and rear leaf, but the 09 now has front/rear coil. Just wanted to see if there were any dodge mechs on the forum and knew the diff of the two years. I want to say the frame and mounts are the same, just diff body style?

don't think there was much if anything changed as far as the front end goes, and that's where you'd be changing out parts, with the exception of the transfer case and drive shaft.

wtf do leaf springs have to do with the 4wd components? If I remember correctly both 2wd and 4wd have rear axles so he wont need that.

You'll need-

Transfer case (Been the same transmission/transfer case for awhile)
Rear drive shaft(unless theyre the same lenth, depending on body config)
Front drive shaft
Front diff
Front half shafts
Lower a-arms
Strut tower
Coilovers
4x2 Spindles will work
Harness and switches to control the locking front axle
Harness and switches to control the tranfer case

I may be forgetting some things. Honestly the switch seems like a nightmare and if you can swing it Id trade out for a 4x4 or suck it up and leave it 2wd until you can.

My problem is that I traded in an 08 350Z after 6 months and took a good rollover on the truck. I'd hate to eat another new rollover on another new truck. The rollover is too high to add to a used vehicle, which is why I'd have to get another new one. I really don't want to do that, which is why I asked the question about the 08/09 4X4 swap.

Do you think it's doable, or just a total waste of money and time?

thx for your help and opinion.

You bought a new Ram 2x4 now you want a 4x4?
Sounds like your and impulse buyer lol
Took me over year to find a new truck I liked, didnt like any of the 2008 models, then the new Ram came out, and with all the big rebates was the best time to buy a new truck.

Not really an impulse buy, it was truck month here in Texas and had huge rebates. I wanted a 4X4 but couldn't find one within 4 local dealerships. My sticker was 35K, got it for 24K. 09 5.7 Hemi Quad Cab. The end of the month was here and the rebates would end, so this is how I got stuck with a 4X2.

Do you use 4x4 much? Sounds like a headache to switch, plus I think the milage would be better. I think it would take alot. Do '08 have traction control too. Wonder how all the computer stuff would mesh? Good luck if you do the switch tough.
