Blacked Out My Tail Lights & 3rd Brake Light
I'll be willing to bet that in direct sunlight those lights will be virually impossible to see. While I agree it does look good, with the way these morons drive half asleep I want my brake lights to be as bright as possible. I run up on people all the time that have these on their vehicles and you cannot see them until you're about to run them over. Full coverage will only be going to your heirs if they kill you when they run you over. I'll bet they're illegal in most states as well. They look good but for me it's just transportation and I want to live a little longer to enjoy the really important things in life, boats, babes and beer!
Looks awesome Doc. The black on the black truck is just really smooth looking.
Did the place you go these from offer different shades of tint/paint? I'd like to smoke mine a little, but I think the dark black like yours would look off on my silver RAM.
As for if they're legal, it probably varies on the state, but most only regulate the headlights. Remember back in the 90s when the GTS covers were all the rage? Cops were all over you if you had anything over the headlights.

All motor vehicles are required by law to have red reflectors on the rear of the vehicle and amber on the front corners. See California Vehicle Code Section 24607.
I want to black out mine but am concerned about my childrens safety.

My lights are pretty visible even though I used niteshade. But I did get pulled over recently on a drive to tampa by a state trooper.
He was cool and said nothing could be covering the lights and my tins were 4% too dark. He gave me a warning and let me go. I am surte he thought that I was a younger driver with the looks of my truck.
Since then I have not made any changes and the local police have not even looked at the truck. I have been in front of a few on purpose to see if they even cared and none did.
With that thought I will wait to see if anyone gives me a hard time since a warning is not trackable.

I know for WA state law it is required that your tail lights put out a red light. They don't have to appear red unless lit.
They do have a requirement for how far away it must be visible from though.

I will eventually get tinted tails, but I have a recom extreme tailgate bar, with amber turns, running light, brakes and reverse light. If ya don't see that lit up your an idiot.
Honestly if someones not paying attention they are going to hit you whether your lights are tinted, or not.

Very nice, have not done any mods to mine yet but yours does motivate me to get started. I plan on having my wheels powder coated black, and doing the headlamps and tail lamps smoked.

hey ryan, if i were you i would wait for the recon lights to be avail.
doc fluty. if i were you i would DEFINATELY (spelling?) get the l.e.d. bar. its not visible until lit up. best of both worlds. keep you safe, the light bar is right in the eyesight of people driving cars. they also sell a trick one with intigrated turn signals also......
