Default Short in Drivers Airbag?

Anybody else have any problems with airbags? There is a dash light, and a very anoying little beep that comes on over and over. I have my truck in the shop as we speak getting the drivers airbag replaced for the 4th time. Has anyone ran across this issue? I haven't had a drivers airbag in this truck yet that has lasted more than a day without this problem, it seems to me that maybe there is a fix other than the bag.

You're probably right in that it is something other than the bag. Sounds like you need a new dealer. Hard to believe Dodge would pay them to install 4 airbags and not look for anything else.

Thank God I'm not the only one with this problem. The geniuses here at my local dealership initially decided it was a problem with some sensor in the SEATBELT of all things, so they order the part and put it in. So now the light doesnt' just come on periodically, it STAYS on, along with another oil change message even though I changed my oil less than 2k miles ago.

At that point I decided that the folks in that particular service department were clowns, and they don't get to touch my truck anymore. I've spoken with another dealership who thinks something called a "clock spring" could be the root of the problem. I was going to get a third opinion, but they only do electrical diagnostics on weekdays. *sigh* If I find out anything more I'll make sure to post it here.

If your truck is like mine, you have seat belt pre-tensioners, side impact airbags, and maybe even accelerometers in the door pillar (not sure about that, I'd have to look it up). Any of those could cause the Airbag Light to come on and the first thing any tech will do is disconnect the battery so nothing goes boom prematurely so it doesn't surprise me that you oil change light got messed up. Just reset it. The point is, I would suggest letting them have another try at it. The clockspring is in the steering column and allows the steering wheel to turn whille maintaining electrical contact for wheel mounted switches, horn, and airbag, so that is a possible cause, too.

From your post, it sounds to me like the "clowns" at the dealership may know more about your truck than you do.

All of that is useful information. Would've have been even more useful coming from the service techs themselves. Or maybe they wouldn't be able to provide it without sounding completely condescending either, so perhaps they decided to forgo the conversation altogether?

At any rate, thanks for the information.
