Satellite sound quality
i had an older siruis in my old jeep. it worked through an fm transmitter or you could use the plug (my jeep didnt have a plug spot). i had used it both ways and sounds the same as built into the truck i now have. its just the way it is...
I find even the cheapo RES with no amp sounds decent for a factory radio and the kicker upgrade is really good with the sub especially but not needed unless you like boom boom music.I like the Alpine in the Laramie sounds really nice and clean.
I was trying to be polite when I said less than stellar. Actually, my wife and I both are dissapointed in it. My 04 factory Bose blew it away and I am NOT a fan of Bose. There are others who feel the same way I do. I am glad that you are enjoying yours, there are others who like the Alpine too. Thats an old thread I don't want to dig back up. When I upgrade to an aftermarket I am giving away my Alpine to whomever wants it. If not, it will take it target shooting with me one day
What brand speakers come in it? I figured an Alpine Surround Sound system meant Alpine speakers too.
There is something wrong. I've had both XM and Sirius since they came out in a number of vehicles. None of my past vehicles had the "tinny" sound which occurs in these 09 Rams. My personal take is it is either a poor wire connection or a really crummy antenna. In my last truck, an 05 Chevy Silverado, it had XM with the Bose system, the quality of the sat radio sound in that vehicle was outstanding.
I also would like to add:
This is a hard wired sat radio set up, which in no way, shape, or form should compare to a FM transmitted setup. On the FM transmitters, the sound will be degraded, as FCC regulations limit the wattage transmitted from the transmitter. Most in car transmitters do not send a signal any stronger than 1 watt. Hard wire setups should be close if not right at CD quality sound (256kbs), though I have read and someone else mentioned that it is piped at 192 kbs. FM is 96 kbs.

I have had multiple systems in the past and the one thing I noticed was a volume adjustment. The aftermarket radio I had an adjustment that allowed me to set the volume higher. Basically at a volume of 10 the adjustment of 1-4 would be added. I always ran a 2 setting. This allowed me to go between FM and Sat and have the same volume. Maybe they should have added that to our radios. With all of this said I really have no compliants with my radio I do not have any of the problems that where stated before. Maybe I just got a good radio?
