If they still made the 5.9 in the 09 hd's I wouldn't have even considered this truck
Exactly, plus the original poster was even interested in the 2007 & 2008.

No arguments from me, why is a truck available with gas engines at all? But given the choice of those available, I'm happy enough with Mr Hemi. And the coil springs, and well finished interior.

The automakers just don't realize how well a half ton diesel would sell. This truck was going to hold me over until the 5.0 Cummins was released. I'd buy one tomorrow if I could.

As for the 4.7 or Hemi in an 07 or 08 that is hard to decide but one thing you have to look at is in 08 Dodge rebuild the 4.7 and increased hp from 235 to 310 and it is a major difference. So keep that it mind if your going to get a 07 4.7 them you might as well as get the Hemi. If you get an 08 then either is fine since there is only 35 hp difference between them. Now I will say that my other car is a 2007 Jeep Commander with the Hemi and the power is completly different. The Hemi has better response of the line (More torque equals better launch)but that is about it. Once your up in the RPM's they both run about the same in my opinion. Keep in mind I am comparing the older Hemi to the new 4.7 and not the new Hemi I have not had a chance to drive one of them yet. I will say I wish I had the Hemi in my truck but only to say "I have a Hemi". Finally the maintenance on my Jeep's Hemi is expensive and the new 4.7's seem to be build the same way. What it all comes down to is what do you want to do with the truck and can you deal with not having the Hemi. I personally would not have bought my truck with the 4.7 if they had not rebuild the engine. The old 4.7's where real dog's, I have driven them and they do not compare to the new 4.7's. Sorry 3rd gen 4.7 owners just my 2 cents

I have driven a straight 6 Jeep Cherokee for 9 years, its on its last leg. When I originally bought this vehicle I was in the market for a truck but for less money I was able to get into a jeep. But I hunt a lot and a truck bed is needed for sure, 4x4 is a need when I need it (I don't off road for a hobby, strictly use it when needed). But I don't have a solid reason to go with the HEMI. I don't tow a lot, I probably won't tow more than what I do with my Jeep. I just now that when I drag the boat with the Jeep it is a big wind drag and yanks me all over the road.

I just want to make sure I make the right choice because I will keep this one at least another 10 years.

I hardly feel the power difference because I am always trying to get the best gas mileage and never floor the truck.
Breaks my heart to hear that I got the Hemi just to FLOOR it!

I bought a truck with a smaller engine in summer. I hadn't test driven the Hemi yet. When I test drove the Hemi and felt the power band in comparison to the other companies, I dumped the smaller truck and got the 5.7 right away. I wasn't concerned with gas mileage, but it was an added bonus when I found the Hemi was getting better mileage. You can get the fuel saver mode to work as often in the city as on the highway once you get the technique down. If you added a tonneau and an economizer chip etc, I bet you could get far better mileage with the Hemi than the 4.7 stock.
