What is the correct tire pressure?
A tire manufacturer has no clue what vehicle their tire is being mounted on so they have no idea what the optimum pressure will be. That's why they only give you a maximum pressure that the tire can handle for a max possible load the tire can handle. Your tire will say inflate to 44 psi to carry (guessing) 4000 lbs. Well, add up all 4 tires and if your truck, cargo, and passengers add up to 16000 lbs. by all means, run 44 psi!!! That will accomplish nothing but give you a stiff ride.
Google it, every (professional) tire maker, (professinal) car maker, (professional) consumer site, (professional) tire mechanic, etc. will say the same thing.

Dodge says 35psi is best then run with it. Higher or lower then recommended will cause the vehicle to preform different, rough ride, poor fuel economy, harder to handle in wet weather etc. Personally if I am going on a long highway trip then I will run a couple psi higher say 37. If winter and doing a lot of snow driving I will run a couple psi lower then recommended say 32-33psi for better grip.
I always thought the recommended was on the low side for the 20's, and I have also been running at 40psi without issue. I tend not to slow down to grandma speeds for corners, and the recommended rolled over too much. Been fine with 40psi, with no signs of center wear.
