any idea what the other grey plug almost the size or slightly smaller than the blue one, or the smaller white wires hanging down with smaller white connectors?

Are we talking about an electric trailer braking module? Because I have to get one installed in my truck for my trailer that has electric brakes. I haul a tandem 14x5 with two 2500 lb axles but I have loaded 7000 lb in it when I had my old truck. I won't be doing that any more with my Ram, but I still haul construction materials and trash in it. I had mine under the dash in my Chevy, but I don't want to ugly up my new truck like that. I just checked my little cubby hole by the park brake, if it fits in there that would be cool.

not sure about the other plugs but the blue one is supposed to be for trailer brakes....and the parts guy who said it can't be done because of the built in sway control is an idiot. The trailer sway control is built into the trucks esp. the brake controller is just that....a simple trailer brake controller.

Not really. The brake controller is supposed to be integrated with your ABS brakes which is part of the ESP system. That also includes the sway control. This is common on the other trucks out there so the info is probably correct. So it is not just a plain old standard trailer brake controller.

The Dodge specs specifically call it an Integrated trailer brake controller. Here is an example of the the very same GM version of the product.

Integrated Trailer Brake Controls = RPO JL1

It is integrated with the ABS system and provides immediate and measured brake force signaling to electric-controlled trailer brake systems. As it is fully integrated with the vehicle’s ABS and electric systems, there is no requirement for external and/or aftermarket brake control systems – response is simultaneous with the application of the vehicle brakes.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may request that dealers install the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller on their Full Size pickup when the vehicle was ordered without RPO JL1.

Recommendation/Instructions:
This is to advise you that if the vehicle does not have RPO JL1, it can not be retro-fitted with a factory trailer brake controller.
Sounds like the parts guys know exactly what they are talking about if Dodge uses the same type setup. But note that on the Ford trucks, the controller can be added if you program the computer so maybe we will luck out??
