Anyone see the new GMC commercial?
As with everything in the advertisement world, read between the lines. As far as Hp as a chip, filter and the hemi is the same. I would imagine the ride doesn't compare to the Ram, and the interior lacks (except for the elect. folding mirrors). And for the commercial they stick two trucks in the mud and pull them out (whoopie), they don't show the trucks truly stuck or the GMC in the same position. I am sure either ford, dodge, toyo, nissan could of done the same thing, not impressed, its advertising and biased at that, and a truck pretty much like the rest.
HAH! Who cares about engine size, and wtf does hp per ci have to do with anything. The hemi makes 1.13hp per ci where as gm's 4.8l makes 1.006 hp per ci, does that mean your going to go buy the 4.8 since theyre so close... no because even though its hp per ci is so close to the hemi's, it doesn't even make 300hp. Shoot the new Ford Taurus 3.5 ecoboost motor makes 365 hp which puts it at 1.72 hp per ci. Now how does that make the almighty hemi look?

I care, that is obviously why I brought it up. You must care also as you addressed this issue. If you don’t care then may we safely disregard your comments?
HP per cubic inch has to do with which engine produces the most power given the same size displacement, a reflection of its engineering. A desireable engine trait for those seeking power. I want all the power I can get from the engine in my truck.
I would not buy the 4.8L because at 300HP it’s almost as underpowered as the 5.4L Triton. Sorry but 300HP is not close enough to 390HP for me given the competition out there, thanks. Perhaps GM could scale up this engine up to compete with the 5.7L? I would welcome that competition.
You conveniently failed to mention the 3.5L ecooboost requires 2 turbos to make its power. Take those turbos off and that puts the Hemi right where it belongs - making more power per cube than any truck engine GM OR Ford makes. Alternately, put 2 turbos on the Hemi to place it in the same category and that puts the Hemi right where it belongs - making more power per cube than any truck engine GM OR Ford makes. Makes it look pretty good to me.
If our 5.7L (HEMI)makes more HP per cube than any other truck engine bothers you I do apologize, that was not my intention. For those who can settle for less power per CID there appears to be plenty of alternates, as you have pointed out.
Also might want to remember that it's a truck, so torque is what matters, not HP. In that measure the 6.2 GMC still has a little more, but it would eliminate the silly comparisions with things like a Taurus.
I like the imagery though, little bitches squatting...
One quick scene in that commercial you see the rams front wheels spinning so that truck assisted the ford and the dodge out of the mud, it could not have pulled two truck in neutral out of there not a chance in hell.
I know it's an old thread, but the GMs have to be spun more rpm then the hemi to make their hp numbers, and torque is a way more important rating then hp. People saying things like the "4.7 Dodge is almost as much power as the Ford 5.4" yeah, but less torque. and not as low a rpm, for example. The 4.8 Chevy must be spun what 4800 rpm to gets its torque? The wrong bore and stroke combo.
