What do "DS", "DJ" and other 2-letter codes mean?
I've seen Rams referred to by these two-letter codes, and was wondering what they mean. The Wikipedia section on the 4th generation Rams is "DS/DJ", so I thought it may refer to 2wd/4wd, but there are 5 versions on Tech Authority:
2009 RAM TRUCK (DC/DH/D1/DM) SERVICE MANUAL ON CD
2009 RAM TRUCK (DS) SERVICE MANUAL ON CD
Thanks!
2009 RAM TRUCK (DC/DH/D1/DM) SERVICE MANUAL ON CD
2009 RAM TRUCK (DS) SERVICE MANUAL ON CD
Thanks!
I found this on another forum and STOLE IT! Yes I did and I'm not ashamed. LOL
Near as I can tell it's pretty acurate.

Chrysler uses two letter designation codes for every vehicle program. The chart listed above is accurate for the vehicles I am familiar with. DR was the 3rd gen Ram and DS is the 4th gen Ram. Some of you may be more familiar with the two letter Jeep vehicle designations like CJ, YJ, TJ, JK, ZJ, WJ, WK, XJ, KJ, XK, etc... I have no idea why the public uses the Chrysler two letter designations so commonly in reference to Jeeps, but not for any of Chrysler's other vehicle lines... Well, except for the PT Cruiser, which is yep, you guessed it... PT! I think they were running out of names when they officially named it the PT Cruiser.
Thanks, you too! I was torn between the Deep Water Blue two tone and the Inferno Red two tone Laramies they had on the lot. The wife made the deciding vote and we've been very happy with it.
Found your post which was helpful but didnt seem conclusive imo. I kept searching because I wanted to order service manual and wiring diagrams but didnt want to get the wrong one.
Then I found this which seemed to be more logical. Its a chart that breaks down all the "D" family body codes similar to a VIN breakdown.

Hope it helps.
