There is a recall for all standard ac controls because of windows fogging up. I havent brought mine in yet but I'm hoping that it will help eliminate this smell in mine as well, haha!!!!

 

i had the ac recall done already. doesnt fix it.

i usually leave the truck parked with the fan in the off position. this sucks. i cant beleive im going to be stuck with a truck that smells like freaking mold all of the time.

 

I hear you. It is such a pain to have a work around for an engineering problem, but it is never an engineering problem with the AC system. It is always the owners problem. Oh well.

Parking your truck with the fan in the off position isn't going to do any good. This will do nothing to combat the problem that is causing the smell. You have to get rid of the water that is remaining in the evaporator case. This includes any ice that has built up on the coils, because when it melts, it ain't goin' anywhere.

Really, the only way I have stopped this smell is to blow the water out of the AC BEFORE you turn off the truck. You have to turn of the compressor and put the fan on high and let it run for about 5 minutes at least. It needs to be enough to dry out the water inside the case. Running the heater will do a quicker job, but the compressor must be off. Keep doing this for several days and the smell will eventually go away. You MUST remember to do this every time or the smell will return over night.

Yep. I understand they redesigned the AC system from the Gen 3 to the Gen 4 and this is what we have to live with on the Standard system. I sure wish I would have spent the extra on the climate control. I don't think anyone is having a problem with the climate control system (has actual temperature setting in degrees).

 

is the compressor running ONLY when in ac, max ac, and in defrost mode?

so all other modes to "dry it out" will be safe...

quick question. how easy of a swap would it be to switch out for the better system?
