Havent had that happen to me yet, but I can totally see how you could accidently do that.....i like the feature for going down hills....i use lower gears to hold the truck back rather than use up the brakes.....lifetime powertrain warranty baby....haha

I got a buddy with a 4th Gen, took it back to the dealer for "tranny issues" about three times till they figured out that is what he was doing, without even realizing it...

I had that happen to me soon after I purchased mine, but it wasn't as dire a situation as the OP had. I learned to keep my hand off the shifter when cornering and just grab the center console, especially when I'm trying to be Mark Martin on the curves....

I've done it in my truck too. I always have my hand on the shifter. Used to having a manual in the car. I did it my car just the other day too. I forgot I had it in manual in a long line of traffic. When I went to take off, the car kept on revving as I was accelerating as normal, waiting for the shift. Wondered why the tires were scratching the pavement so much . What a rush...60mph in first at about 5500-6000 rpm..Won't do that again.
