Default Hood nearly came open on its own...

Folks,

I was driving home from work today and met a semi in oncoming traffic. The wind seemed to "shake" my hood enough to cause it to pop up. Thankfully the safety latch grabbed. Has this happened to anyone else? The reason I know the hood latch was not already released is because I saw (and heard!) the hood pop up and grab the safety latch.

Interested in what you have to say!!

Thanks,
Nathan

I too have seen my hood shaking due to excess speeds/wind. I now check my hood to ensure it's completely latched in fear of what has happened to you. Not sure if mine will ever blow open, but it does look flimsy...

Never had that issue, but my first guess is your stops need adjusted.

I adjusted my stops after seeing it move around a lot on my truck too. It is fine now.

I've noticed how flimsy this hood is too. I was driving in a bad storm going against the wind gusts and my hood was probably seeing combined winds of about 120 mph. The hood was shaking quite a lot but it never popped. I guess they cut down on hood bracing to try and bring down the hefty weight of these trucks.

I agree with the stops. My Jeep Wrangler TJ did this all the time. You would drive 50mph and you could watch the hood shake and want to lift. Thank God for the latches. I adjusted the stops so the gap was smaller b/t the hood and it did help but Jeeps aren't the most air dynamic. I haven't had a problem with my truck. I barely have a gap under my hood. When I lift it I have a hard time just getting my hand under there to get the latch.

Not sure about the 2010 but the 09 hood is aluminum, would say that makes it a bit flimsy and for sure lighter.
