engine or trans surge
If you guys are decelerating/coasting (not using brakes) up a slight incline to a stop, like a stop light or something, at real slow speed, do any of you experience a chugging or jerking sensation? Mine feels like that sometimes, but only on real shallow inclines. It jerks at a frequency of like 2 or maybe 3 times per second. I'm sure it has something to do with the engine being at such a low rpm, but it's just annoying. Anyone else experiencing this?
Ok, well it's a little comforting to know mine isn't the only one I guess.

Sounds like what I experience on and off:

Yeah it sure does. The pulsating feeling seems dead on. I've never noticed if my headlights dim while doing it, but I have noticed them dim other times very briefly and I thought it was strange. Usually as I start to climb a hill I think.
It seems like I saw a picture of yours the other day and thought to myself how similar it seemed to mine. It's a CC Bighorn or Lonestar right? Might have something to do with some similarity between our trucks. What is the build date and specs of your truck? Mine was made Feb 2 in St. Louis.
We have to be careful chiming in on this subject, I have read three different things in this post, in other words not realted to each other. So what one does to help the situation will not help the other 2.
For hill issues try disabling your Hill start assist. It is an option in your EVIC setup.
Definitely never a good idea to cover too many bases on the same thread but I think these issues are all related. My 10/08 build, 5.7, QuadCab, (with all the options of a Big Horn - minus the emblems and dual exhaust) has all these issues.
1) Surge happens before a complete stop, the truck downshifts and picks up speed (increased torque applied to same brake-pressure).
2) Surge happens after complete stop, RPM's drop to near stall, and then bounce back up - truck finally downshifted.
3) Pulsing/bouncing coming to an easy stop (like it's trying to figure out whether to downshift or not).
The issue is intermittent, but when it happens - for instance, I will get it consistently going through a parking lot with several complete stops - speed never exceeds 25 MPH.
I'm inclined to think that it's either the transmission or the electronic controls for it. But because it's intermittent and never throws a code - I don't think it'll ever get resolved unless the engineers back at HQ think it's a big enough deal to address. But with all the money woes - not going to hold my breath.

Yep. Yep. That's just how mine acts. Only difference between us is that I have never noticed any sort of a surge after stopping like you and some other folks have. So maybe the first two problems aren't related to the third? Who knows. It's a minor annoyance I guess, and it does seem to be getting a little less frequent, so that's good. It did it a lot when it was brand new, but I just chalked it up to it being new and things needing to loosen up and get broken in.
