Default Tire chains on 2009 4x4s but not 2010s?

I was just flipping through the 2010 owner's manual to see what sorts of things have changed from last year's model and noticed something.

The 2010 manual (pg. 414) states that tire chains are not compatible with 4x4s with P275/60R20 tires (my size). Yet, the 2009 manual has no such restriction (pg. 378). I can't imagine they changed the truck that much such that chains would no longer fit.

I'll be heading through Oregon next week and am expecting to run into at least some snow and ice. Anyone had to strap on chains to their 2009/10 yet? I'd love to know how well they worked for you. Thanks!

That's strange. Does it say the 2 wheel drives are compatible? I've never heard of a truck that you couldn't put chains on. If you're going to buy some, I'd say call a big retailer that specializes in them (like tirechains.com or something) and ask them what they know about it, or any situations where you should not put chains on a vehicle. I'd suspect the reason might be scratching or damaging large wheels on lower profile tires, but there might actually be a more safety oriented reason.

All it says about the 4x2s is to make sure you install the chains on the rear tires.

I test-fit my chains this evening on my 2009 1/2 ton, and they seem to have plenty of clearance.

My 09 4X4 1500 Laramie Manual says "Chains may be used on 17" wheels only".
Then in another box it says tire chains "are not compatible with the P275/60R20 tires."
When I picked up my truch from the dealer they made me sign a release form that stated "Tire chains can not be used with this truck"........I was told it was because of the 20" wheels.

The chains probabally screw up the 20" rims due to the low profile tires. You need some sidewall to run chains.
