Default Grille Guards

My wife and I are planning a road trip from Vancouver BC to Toronto ON in our new '09 1500 Sport, and were wondering if anyone has some advice on deer-proofing our truck. I am reading mixed reviews on grille guards, where some people state that they are useless against animals, and other people say that their truck would have been totalled had it not been for their grille guard.

The Rancher guards look quite sturdy, but figured before I run out and buy new toys, I'd find out whether or not it's a worthwhile investment or not.

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

I have a Ranch hand Grill guard. I love it, i will say you can tell it ways down the front end of the truck a bit, but i think the ranch hand weighs a little over a hundred pounds, also it will not work if you have a body lift on the truck.

Down here in Western Oklahoma alot of people have them on their trucks. I find that most people i have talked to, when they hit a deer it saves the truck. I have not personally hit one yet, i was close but brand new truck with good brakes allowed me to stop in time. i did see a truck that hit a deer at 95mph it dented in the grill guard but not bad enough to damage the truck.

If i would recommend any, it would be the ranchhand, they are very sturdy and bolt right up. Though i think they only come in black, but it looks good on my sliver truck.
