Default Speedo "ticking"??

Under acceleration the speedo does not go up smoothly, it ticks like a clocks second hand. Goes down smooth on deceleration. Speedo was accurate before I put the 35's on and has always ticked since I purchased the truck. Any ideas?

Sounds like the stepper motor is either stripped or spasming out..lol

I know on the 2006-2008 years, if you sit in the truck and don't touch or turn anything on for 60sec, and then open the driver door you can hear the stepper motor ratcheting.

Is it a ticking or ratcheting/stripping sound?

No sound, just as I speed up the needle jumps up instead of rising smoothly lol

Heres a video of what I mean. When I put it to the floor it rises smooth. Guess I just have to hammer it everywhere I go! haha

yeah, that is annoying and is not correct. It looks like there may be binding on either the needle or shaft. If not, then the internal gear is probably sticking.

Taking it apart is probably the only fix other than replacing the whole cluster. The cluster shouldn't be more than $350 and it is plug'n'play. Self learning. You will need to go to the dealer for a mileage reading and they will have to order you a cluster from a 3rd party with your exact mileage.
I would try taking it apart first because there is a core deposit on a new one.

Its got aftermarket gauge faces so im thinking the guy before me pushed the needle on too hard. Have to pull it apart and see whats up. Im used to it now, I hardly look at the speedo. I know the feel of my truck to within about 5mph so im good lol
