Default Ipod kit and "new" ipod

I have the ipod cable in my truck and up until now it has worked pretty well. Got a beautiful new ipod nano (5th gen) for Xmas. Got it all loaded up and put it in the truck only to find out that Apple has apparently changed the pinouts on the newer ipods. The ipod still plays but it does not charge. It also does not turn the ipod "on" when I start the truck so I get the connection error every time. From searching the web it seems that this is a common gripe with newer ipod owners with older docking stations and car kits. Anyone else dealt with this? Is there a solution?

What software version are you running with your Nano and Stereo in your truck. I have the same Nano and have some comm errors once in a while, but my biggest problem is the sound goes weird after a while intermittently, I have a iPod touch and it doesn't seem to have the same issues.

I don't remember having any issues with the Nano until I updated it to 1.02. I also have 2.043 in my RER. I have read on the mygig forum that one guy has a updated disc for the ipod funtion for the 2.043, but he hasn't posted and updates yet. He has the problem of the ipod going dead. Mine seems to turn on and off ok, just occassionally I get the initializing comm error.

I have 2.043 in the truck and the newest software on the nano. Ive been reading online that Apple changed from using the firewire charging method to the usb method via the 30 pin connector back at the end of 08. I would think the 09 factory kit would be set up for that so I'm not quite sure why mine doesnt charge. Might try that Schosche converter and see if it helps.

I checked mine today, it shows charging and so does my iPod touch. I think there is a problem with the 2.043 software myself. I was hoping the guy on unofficial mygig would post if the disc he got from Harman Becker fixed his iPod charging problem or not.

I think it is a voltage issue not a pinout issue... the newer ipods changed voltage from 12v to 5 v...
