uconnect contacts
Anyone have issues with having uconnect understand some of the contacts in the phone book? I have done the "training" to help the uconnect learn, however, sometimes it takes awhile for it to get the correct name when I say it or never gets it at all. Its really hit or miss with me.
UConnect re-downloads your address book every time your phone connects to it - i.e. every time you get in and crank up your truck. The owner's manual says it is SUPPOSED to use the one it downloaded last time until it finishes downloading it again. But, I have noticed sometimes that if I try to make a call with voice dialing right after I crank the truck up, it doesn't recognize the name. But, a couple of minutes later it does. This seems to suggest that it's just because it hasn't finished re-downloading my contacts yet.
My download does take a minute or two. When I first got my truck, I had about 1500 contacts stored in my Blackberry. It would take a few minutes and then say "UConnect, truncated address book after 1000 entries." So, I went through and cleaned up my contacts and got it down to about 750. It still takes a minute or so to download them, but no more message about truncating. And the voice dialing seems to work pretty darn well if I do it after the download is complete.

That must be on the Nav radio only. I find it recognizes numbers better than words, and if you talk normal it works better, windows closed and blowers off.
I did not know that it held that many contacts....
I have 2 phones paired to mine and one is the "main" it is first to paired and I find it only loads the main phones address book, even if the other phone is the only one being used.

Not sure who you're responding to. My radio is the non-Nav touchscreen (i.e. the REN).
Oh, and doing the UConnect "training" thing did make it work a lot better for me. Before I did it, it did have trouble recognizing my voice commands. Though now that I think about it, I haven't re-done the training since I swapped out my UConnect module for the newer part number that gave me iPod integration. I would assume the "training" went away with the old module. The new module has been working just as well, without training, as the old one did *with* training.

I have the new module with the REN and find it recognizes but my wife and I so I don't want to start mucking with the training and have it not work for one of us or worse both!
So your REN radio loads your address book each time you get in? Mine must do that to then because 1 I have the new module and 2 it won't call from the address book right away, it will give me some stupid answer not even close to what I said but later it's fine. The REN originally from what I read in the million page book about it said only the RER's load the phone book automatically, the REN you have to do them all manually. Now I found mine loaded itself by accident just not thinking and i told it to call home and that is how my address book was in my phone and it worked. COOL I like it when changes are actually something that works and makes sense.

I think it does have a thing for manually configuring address book entries. In case your phone has Bluetooth, but doesn't support the feature for downloading your address book. But I still think I actually read somewhere that it also would download the address book. Maybe not.
Regardless, if I get in and hit the UConnect button right away, I can often see the screen flash a message that says "DOWNLOADING ADDRESS BOOK" or something like that. I think I also read in the owner's manual the part about re-downloading the address book every time and using the last one downloaded until the new download is complete.

Thanks for the responses.. Mine is still F'ed for some reason. Even if I wait awhile, it still has problems finding the names or recognizing my voice. Even when it does get who I want, it follows everything with "home". For examle, if I say call "John Smith" and all I have is his mobile number, uconnect will say, "Calling John Smith Mobile Home, is this correct". Saying YES does indeed call his mobile phone so not sure what the HOME part is all about but it says it after every confirmation. I even erased all my contacts and turned off the truck so my phone can download from scratch but the same results.
BTW.. I have the NAV system (not sure what REN and RER are) and using an iphone.

I also have a iphone and mine works great, no issues. I did have to change how I had the names entered by making sure I had entered both the first and last names where on some I only had the first name. No issues for me press the button and I say "call....John Smith home" answer yes and away we go.
I also find my navigation to work equally as well when telling it a name of a city, street and address.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I'll give it a try.
I have no idea how to upload the contacts from my phone into the Uconnect system's address book. My phone (compatible bluetooth enabled) Palm Treo 700wx pairs beautifully with the bluetooth in the truck. But how do I get my contacts into the truck's address book?
I can't find this info anywhere.
Please help.
