Default Movies to hard drive?

Anyone know if there's a specific format they have to be in or something to put movies from a thumb drive onto the hard drive in my truck? Or if it's even possible? I'm working on music right now, was going to start in on my movies next (got about 200+ on my computer).

As far as I know, the REN and RER radios don't support playing movies off the hard drive.

I would love to find out different, though!

well crap...so I just threw 3 movies in .avi format, along with 3 folders of music, onto a freshly reformatted thumb drive...attempted to load them onto my HDD, and it said the directory or something needed to be repaired and that all radio functions would be disabled during the process. I touched the "ok" button, let it do its thing, then it said "process complete" but after 5 minutes still had not gone back to any normal screen. I tapped the "menu" key and everything went back to working normally....except my volume. I now have no music, no audio, nothing. All display functions appear to work normally, but I have no sound. Radio stations display the station and song title and everything of whatever they're playing, but I can't hear anything. Help?!!

Oh and I went back and deleted all the music I had uploaded to see if that would fix it....it didn't.

You've turned the truck completely off and back on and still no sound??

Bummer! Sounds like it's time for a trip to the dealer.

I have portable hard drive I had tried to hook up via USB and the radio wouldn't even recognize it.

Try disconnecting the negative battery cable, wait ten minutes, and reconnect it. This basically resets the electrical system on your truck, which should include the radio. Chances are this will work, if not, perhaps a visit to the dealer is in order. The MyGig's don't support video on the hard drive. I'd avoid trying to install movie files onto it in the future. Your best bet is to burn them to a dvd and your passengers can watch them in motion with the AllGig or LockPick.

The movies on the thumb drive weren't even detected by the system when I loaded the music...tried turning the truck off and back on, didn't fix anything...gonna go try the battery cable now.

One more thought, you may be able to clear the hard drive on your MyGig and restore all the defaults through the engineering menu. Hold down the seek up, seek down and menu buttons together to get the engineering menu if I remember correctly. I'd try the battery negative cable disconnect first though. This should eliminate the possibility of an electrical gremlin. Wiping the memory through the engineering menu should eliminate the possibility of a corrupt file causing you grief.

Ok...maybe I just didn't give it enough time before when I shut it off, but after being off for about 10-15 minutes I just went back out and turned it back on and everything's fine. It gave me the "repair database" message again but this time it only lasted for like 2 seconds then said "some playlist information may have been lost" and reset itself. Good to go now. I'll remember that engineering menu info for future reference, I'm still going to be trying to put music on it but will refrain from attempting to add movies as well for now. Thanks everyone for the quick response and help, really didn't want to have to go to a dealership just to get my music back. I'll update this thread if I have any more issues putting music on it.

Cool deal!

I think it sucks that we can't play movies off the HDD. And that we can't play videos off an iPod, even with the iPod Integration.

I doubt they can add the capability with just a firmware update, either. The head unit would probably require a video decoder chip that it doesn't have. And the iPod integration would probably require an extra cable in the wiring harness from the UConnect module or something. :-(
