Default Anyone elses Ipod music quit during play on RER?

Sometimes when I start up the truck I get a comm. error, or wait communications connecting message (this seems to be related to low battery), but lately if I'm driving and the play pauses and song quits and I have to disconnect and reconnect the ipod to get it to start again, the only way I have been able to prevent this is to disconnect the ipod when the vehicle is off and sits awhile, the other thing I noticed is the ipod does not go to sleep when the vehicle is off and still connected, I also have a dark line across the ipod screen when the light comes on the ipod I think due to the ipod not sleeping over the last 7 months. The only thing I can think is that the battery is wearing down while sittting over night or for long periods of time or maybe its time to get a new pod, any thoughts?

I had the same problem, took my ipod back, they said no problem with it, then I just bought this. It fixed the problem, it drove me crazy. This works.

I have been using this for a week now with no comm error or audio dropout. The problem is with the software in the stereo. I used to have to unplug the ipod about 3-4 times a day for the problem you describe, now I haven't for a week straight. It changes the way the ipod charges (firewire vs. usb) on the iPod.

RBRK,
What iPod do you have? I had an older Ipod that worked and charged but would not turn off while connected. I put a dock on the console for it so I could easily connect/disconnect it. For Xmas I got a new iPod nano. Worked in the dock but now it doesn't charge. I bought the Griffin equivilent of the Schoche converter but it still does not charge. I tried using my older iPod that used to charge and now that one isn't charging either. Does anyone know if the power line of the iPod cable has any kind of it's own fuse or anything? Anyone using a new 5th gen iPod nano without any issues?

I am using a 5th gen Nano, my 3rd gen Touch always worked fine. The problem I had was with the 5th gen Nano. It previously showed charging and still does, but I always got the comm error and sound problem untill I bought the adapter. What Radio do you have and what software is on it and the Nano?

I have an older 30gb Ipod wheel with the screen and it charges but I have the above mentioned problems, I have connected my iphone 3gs, the first time the screen on my RER started messing up, disconnected the iphone and never had the problem again, connected the phone one more time b/c i didn't have my charger and the audio dropout started after, since I have reset the RER and updated my ipod, guess I will try the schoche, I don't recall a fuse on the integration cable when I installed mine.

Are you using the factory ipod cable or a aftermarket dock cable? I was talking about the factory iPod accessory cable that the OEM stereo uses and controls the iPod with.

Oh how simple Apple has made our lives, those awesome foolproof commputer totally proprietory and the Ipods....shouldn't they all be compatible and well you should get one of those in the box just in case. I know that there is an updated cable for the trucks don't know the part number but saw it on a post somewhere just search ipod cables or whatever. Why if you have 30 gig harddrive do you need an ipod in the car. Just put all those files on the hard drive. I have around 40 or 50 cds loaded so far and still shows 23.7 gigs left. It really compresses them but they sound good to me. I haven't loaded any thru usb yet I have been busy fixing the names and stuff of the files so the names come up right and removing duplicate songs that we have loaded cd.
I AM AN IPOD HATER

I've wondered the same thing but there's so many threads about ipods that there must be a good reason.

I have the factory ipod cable. I added an ipod dock that passes the audio out through the 30 pin connector so it all worked fine with my older 30g ipod video. The only issue I had was that particular model ipod does not turn itself off when connected to a cable so it would always drain itself while the truck was off. When I restarted it I would have to wait for it to charge enough to power up and then disconnect/reconnect it. That was why I added the dock in the first place. Now with the 5th gen Nano, it plays fine through the dock, just doesn't charge. The adapter didn't correct the charging issue. I have the RER with 2.043 running.

I don't want to load all of my music onto the hard drive simply because it seems to take forever for the music to load. Most of my music is on my ipod not cds so transferring it would prob take a long time. The only real way I know of to transfer the music is through a memory stick. for some reason my high capacity memory stick is not recognized by the radio. My smaller memory sticks work but I can only transfer a few albums at a time. With 20 gigs of music to put on, it would take a long time. Plus I have heard organizing it on the RER hard drive is a pain in the a$$.

Curious about a "new" cable. I'll have to look into that.

I have read on the mygig forum about someone that had a charging problem like yours, mine has always charged with 1.220, 2.042 and 2.043. I didn't understand why some have that problem and some don't with the same software.

I did just buy my cable about two months ago, so if there was an updated cable, I might have it and you (them) don't. I have no issues now with the audio going out on the ipod or the comm error like I used to have.

It still shows charging, I don't know if it shuts off because everytime I open the door, it seems to wake up. I haven't sat in the truck to see if it shuts off or not, but I have checked it when I read of the previous problems and mine was not dead and had quite a bit of battery when I checked it after sitting overnight.
