Default Distance to empty

Has this happened to anyone? I fill my truck up full as possible and the distance to empty tells me I have 373 or so kms to empty. Next time I go and get gas the DTE says 525 kms to empty. At first I thought it was because of the winter gas but now I'm thinking that there is something wrong with the truck. It seems that the lower amount comes up more often that not. Could it just be winter gas? I go different gas stations and get the same results either way.

It's based on the current average MPG in your EVIC, nothing more complex than that.

^+1.
Distance to Empty reading will flucuate as you average mpg changes. After driving in town and then getting some highway milage on the tank, you will notice the miles to empty increase. Its an estimate anyway.

BUT is it an estimate we can trust? for example....to where it says 10 miles til empty but u still run out of gas before it gets to 0

But it's fun watching the distance to empty go down a faster than the odometer goes up....

I have had some wierd experiences with the km till empty and the average L/km as well. I had one time I pulled into the gas station and it said 20.6L/100km, filled up and started the truck and then for some reason all of a sudden it was only 15.4L/100km. I don't understand how it all of a sudden dropped over 5L/100km when it really had no change in driving style or anything to base it on. I started keeping an eye on it and more often than not whenever I fill up it automatically drops my L/km reading by about 1-2L. I really don't get how it calculates that you will get better fuel economy just because its a fresh tank of gas.

I have also had other times where there was 100+km to empty discrepency on 2 consecutive tanks when the EVIC said I had exactly the same L/km. For eg first tank said something like 585km till empty then I filled up and according to the EVIC I only had 375km till empty with the exact same fuel economy.

I think its a nice feature but not overly accurate unless I am missing something.

I would'nt trust it, I usually wait till it gets between 40-60 miles till empty before I gas up. I always wanna leave a few gallons of gas in the tank, just in case............................Kevin.

I would say if you are driving conservative then yes. If you are running hard then you will run out before it says 0...but I would never let it get that low since it is hard on the fuel pump. The fuel in the tank is what helps cool the pump so I very rarely let mine go past a quarter tank left.

IMO, is it 100% correct, NO. Neither is the gas gauge.

It fascinates me that some want to run the tank down that low before filling. Even on trips, I start looking when I hit 1/2 down. Its time to take a break and streach the legs.
