Default k and n, dirty air?

I read an article from the cummins engine sub forum and it stated k and n filters let too much dirt in the engine. I put one in my truck and I know there are many people on here who use them. The idea makes sense, and the re usability is very green, which is important but could the filter actually damage the engine? also with a lifetime warranty could there be any basis to challenge me from the filter? I know k and n says no but does anyone who knows more about this have info??

If it's oiled properly no dirt should get in. I ride in the desert under the worst dust conditions and the filter will be caked with dirt/sand ect..and the inside is spotless.
