Well I guess it was only a matter of time!
My boys went last week to move some old furniture and junk out of their storage room. Mostly stuff they had when they were in college. Anyway, my oldest boy is driving my 99 QC and his brother is driving my 09 CC. The 09 had to make a quick stop and the 99 slid into it. Messed up the rear bumper only on the 09 and front bumper on the 99. We have already fixed the 99, can't even tell you how easy that was, took like 1.5 hrs and $0. If it weren't for the scratch right above the license plate you wouldn't even know it had been dented. However, the 09 is a different story.
Since my wife and I still insure all 4 vehicles we decided to raise our deductable to a grand to make it more affordable with 2 young male drivers. So since both trucks belong to us, both drivers are insured by us and we would have to pay the first grand we decided to not even report it. I have already ordered the new bumper(unpainted $229) and when it comes in the dealer will paint for me $175. None of the back up sensors were damaged and the bumper cap ($46) is still usable, basically no damage other than dented bumper.
I need some help though from those that have changed or removed the rear bumper before.
I am trying to get the bumper cap off but need to remove the license plate lights first. I can not figure it out. Can anyone tell me how to get these out? I didn't really want to remove the bumper until I had the new one on hand. Just wanted to get the cap off so the plastic didn't remold itself into it's new dented shape. Any ideas how to remove the 2 license plate lights would be really helpful. Thanks, Jeff.

Thanks topgun. There was a lot of mud up behind the bumper and I couldn't see these clips before. As I messed around with the other electrical items I noticed that the bumper cap was actually cracked in the back by the license plate so I will be replacing that part now as well. I do appreciate the information though, it will make things easier when I finally get the new bumper. Jeff.
there are some fantastic adhesives and you could sand it out and then paint the whole thing with some krylon plastic bumper colour paint. I painted the tops of my old chevy they look brand new. good luck, How much is that part anyway, I just wonder if you could have gotten a better dealer aftermarket and 175 to paint the bumper is expensive but I guess there is 100 in supplies. You are lucky my kid got hit with our Avenger in a parking lot, no fault...2800, We paid for that because we have 1000 deductible and well 2 claims would cause big problems.
