Default 2010 REN radio not charging 3G iPhone or 2nd gen touch?

Kind of bugged me a bit that my 2010 REN radio (with factory iPod/uconnect) wouldnt charge my 3G iPhone and my 2010 Jeep with an RER does.

After plenty of searching a lot of people suggested using the scosche adapter for charging newer iPods on older accessories. I had one laying around and indeed it does work (20-25.00 solution) but the adapter doesnt lock into the ipod and after a while of driving around it would come loose from the iPhone and screw up playback.

After a little more digging I found the Mopar 82212001 cable, around 27.00 from the mopar accessory guys, it looks identical to the cable that comes with the truck new but the iPod end is white. And it does charge the newer iPods/iPhones just fine. Just a heads up, may be old news but I couldn't find anything searching around the Dodge forums.

Mopar is selling the 82212001 for $32.50 now... Inflation sucks... It does kind of **** me off that a 2010 model vehicle with an iPod interface wouldn't come with the appropriate cable to charge an iPhone..
